AT TIVAT AIRPORT

Now you are safe and sound as you know about tourist tax. But let`s get one step back and talk about PMS. That`s what I call Promptly Manageable Services at the airport such as free wifi, currency exchange, ATMs, local simcard, taxi arrangements. Last time I`ve been in Tivat airport is July 2024 and there were sings of some of them.

As soon as you leave the building you`ll be surrounded by extreme attention of local taxi drivers. They will give special offers exceeding regular price for the same ride like 2-3 times. So don`t get flattered by their sweet talks and book a taxi in advance. Here are some phone numbers, you can text them via What`s app and arrange a pick up. The difference is only 150 meters that you will have to walk. Go to the left from the exit and tell the taxi that you will be waiting for the car near SIXT car rental sign. Might happen that you will not know the car number, that`s it`s important to explain the pick up point.

Free wifi doesn`t exist in Tivat airport. At least it didn`t when I was there in July. You can find the network, but it doesn`t always work.

ATMs you can find at the entrance to departures, next to arrivals. Yet, it`s a bit weird, but at least they have them there. You can see on pictures two ATMs I found. So bring some euros with you just in case. I`d say at least 50, depending on your destination as you will have to pay the taxi and if I were you I wouldn`t count on card payment. A regular drive to Tivat ̶c̶i̶t̶y̶ village center is about 7-15 euros. Double this amount for Budva (30-40) or triple if you plan to go further. Most cafes and restaurants accept cards, but you can also take 30-50 euros for the first meal just to be on a safe side. There are quite many ATMs around the town, especially in the center and Porto Montenegro area.

There is no currency exchange service at the airport, so take the advice from the previous part and bring some euros with you. In order to exchange money in town go to any bank and enjoy exploring traditional local cuisine.

The last but not least is a local simcard which you again will not be able to buy at the airport. However it won`t be a problem in downtown. There are a few local providers like Mtel, One, Telenor, offering pretty much same tourist plans. I personally use Mtel and quite happy with it.

There are also wending machines between arrivals and departures and a little shop at the departures terminal.

An important note: regardless time of the year you will have to walk from the plane to the terminal building. So consider having a jacket in hand luggage when traveling with a kid or during cool months of the year. Mostly the weather is quite nice ranging from 10 to 20 `C even in winter. However I`d recommend to check the forecast before the flight.

Hope it was a helpful article and there are a few more for foodies, active or spoiled travelers.
